Lisa Lucas

Lisa Lucas is the founder and principal partner of Lucas LLP. In addition to advising clients on specific legal issues, Lisa coordinates the firm's literary representation activities.

Lisa developed her extensive business and legal experience in several industries including trade publishing, academic book and journal publishing, online publishing, software development, marketing and public relations, and commercial real estate. She has held editorial, legal, and management positions at the University of Chicago Press, McGraw-Hill, and Harcourt Trade Publishers (formerly Harcourt Brace & Company, now Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), and has advised online publishers including Salon.com.

The breadth of her experience reflects her deep and long-standing interest in bringing new and interesting creative work to a wider audience, and she draws upon her personal experience acquiring projects, editing manuscripts, negotiating publishing contracts, licensing subsidiary rights and managing those relationships, managing copyright registrations and research, and resolving disputes. When helping clients determine and strategically evaluate their options, Lisa also benefits from her marketing and public relations experience on behalf of companies ranging from start-up technology ventures to book publishers to one of Chicago's top five commercial real estate firms.

Lisa received her B.A. in Politics, Economics, Rhetoric, and Law from the University of Chicago and her J.D. from the UCLA School of Law. While at UCLA Law, Lisa was a Senior Editor of the UCLA Law Review. Her research and commentary on the legal battle over interstate wine shipment to consumers were published in the February 2005 issue of the UCLA Law Review.

A member of the State Bar of California, she is also a member of California Lawyers for the Arts, the Beverly Hills Bar Association (including its Committee for the Arts), and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Lisa supports and is a member of The Authors Guild. In her capacity as a literary agent, she adheres to and encourages the adoption of the Association of Authors' Representatives' Canon of Ethics.

In addition to her participation in associations for legal and publishing professionals, Lisa is the Vice President of the Los Angeles chapter of Slow Food.
